the mall maul

Hello there.Im curious about something. The fire that took place at a certain mall in Dubai recently annihilating the premises. How often have we walked into a mall and seen work taking place behind elaborately decorated plywood boards.Sometimes we are being asked to forgive them for the inconvenience caused to us(like they give a crap.)
How safe are we then?Eh?They claim that fateful(make it sound very CNN-ish)night the sprinklers had been turned off.How do we know for sure that when we visit these malls and work is taking place that the sprinklers are in fact on at all.Hmm?(raised eyebrow).
Do we walk into malls and find the nearest sprinkler and have a smoke under it just to make sure?

  1. Except for Home Centre and the Petshop, I didn't go there much often. But i had to meet a friend for lunch in that mall's re-decorated food court about 2 weeks before it burst into flames.

During our meals, we heard a sound like something collapsed. The breaking sound was followed by a crying girl. Apparently, parts of the hard-plastic false ceiling crumbled on top of a little girl's head who was having lunch with her family.

Thank god the girl was more terrified than hurt .. no one from the mall showed but after 15 minutes.

But if that says anything, its shows who "relaxed" safety procedures were.

  2. Sadly,I will miss the place as I was a big fan of Homecentre and Lifestyle and it was so convenient driving out of Abudhabi to Dubai.Having said that, the incident you witnessed is not a light matter.

  4. It seems that all the Landmark brands - Home Centre, ShoeMart, Splash, Lifestyle, BuyMeABaby, etc will be opening next week at the Mall of the Emirates. Which is a little bit closer to Abu Dhabi than Oasis was. Ain't that great?
